There’s no secret to AdWords success.  Like anything, joining the big leagues of AdWords profits means you must put in the hours.  In this case, it’s hours of keyword work.

Extensive Keyword Research

There are literally thousands of keywords for every industry.  By advertising a thousand or more keywords you will greatly increase your chance of getting clicks at a cheaper rate.

Consider this:

Campaign A:  Your AdWords campaign has only 4 keywords.  These keywords are the most popular keywords for your industry.  The average CPC is $1.  These keywords get 6000 searches a day.  Your campaign is getting a 2% CTR which means your getting $120 clicks at a total cost of $120.

Campaign B:  You research and bid on 2000 keywords.  The average CPC is .10  These 2000 keywords also receive 6000 search queries a day.  Again using a 2% CTR, your campaign is delivering 120 visitors.  But instead of paying $120 as in Campaign A, you are only paying $12.

Obviously, Campaign B is the better performing campaign.  Campaign B is saving $108 a day, $3,600 a month and $43,200 per year.  The difference in ROI is staggering.

Remember, the difference between the two campaigns was in the keywords.  Campaign A had a few popular keywords.  Campaign B contained 2000 keywords.  The keywords in Campaign B are less popular, translating to a cheap CPC for you.

However recently I changed that song-and-dance. And if you’re a webmaster who follows that line of thinking, you should probably re-think your strategy too. It’s flawed for one very simple reason.

People are online mainly for information. And no matter what you do - or don’t do - many of your sites visitors are eventually going to click off to your competitors web sites anyway.

That doesn’t mean they won’t buy something from you, or perform some other desired action. It’s just a fact of doing business online, where your closest competitors are really just a click away.

That’s why avid, hard core golfers buy golfing videos, subscriptions to golfing magazines, they read golfing books, they may even have simulated golf course video games at home. People just want great information, and they’ll continue looking for it even if they’ve read volumes already.

So in all actuality by feeding this desire for information (your information… other people’s information) you might actually be keeping visitors on your site longer, and giving them incentive to come back. Cool huh?

But more importantly, by including other people’s articles on your site, you can also enhance your own profits. How?

Follow these simple steps:

1) Create an article directory on your existing site.

2) Collect targeted articles from directories like ezinearticles.com, isnare.com, and so on. Add them to your sites article directory. Make sure that each article is given its own individual web page.

When I ask them about their web site marketing plan, I get that look. First the eyebrows go up. Then the eyes glaze over for a minute. And then the stammering begins.

“Uh, well, you know - I have my URL on my business card.”

“I, ah, I’m going to start an e-mail newsletter.”

Some of them may even mention something about “search engines.”

But practically no one has a plan! And you know how the old saying goes: “Failure to plan is a plan to fail.”

Most small business owners I talk to are frustrated. They think their web site is a big waste of money. An “online business card.” A “marketing expense” that doesn’t return any of its investment.

And no wonder:
